For determining the annual population number in the period between two censuses, the starting point is the population number of the last census (currently the census with the reference date of 1 October 2022), and from this, the population was estimated by using natural increase or decrease data available from the statistics of vital events until 2000. From 2001 international migration is also taken into account.

10 May is Birds and Trees Day – the saker falcon is the Bird of the Year
According to the current nature conservation act (Act LIII of 1996 on the Protection of Nature), 10 May is the Day of Birds and Trees every year. The commemorations and events held at this time should strengthen the commitment of the population, especially young people, to nature conservation. In 1906, ornithologist István Chernel was the first to organise a “Day of the Birds” in Hungary, on the initiative of Otto Herman, to commemorate the 1902 Paris Convention, signed by European countries to “protect birds useful for agriculture”.

Examination of the Covid pandemic's impact on the functional urban areas of Hungary
The negative impacts of the Covid pandemic did not affect the 19 functional urban areas of Hungary uniformly. A five-component group of indices offers insight into the social and economic changes caused by the pandemic, without testing cause and effect factors. The pandemic had an affirmable negative impact on three of the indices (museum visits, number of tourism nights and mortality numbers), the correlation is not certifiable in the case of two (number of jobseekers, economic power).

Mother’s Day
Motherhood is celebrated all over the world, with Mother’s Day being held on the second Sunday of May in most countries. It became a custom in Hungary some one hundred years ago to celebrate mothers on the first Sunday of May, which this year falls on 5 May. On that day, both children and adults may express their gratitude to grandmothers, too, in addition to the 3.1 million mothers for their love and care.03/05/2024

The Day of Hungarian Film
Hungarian motion picture and filmmakers are celebrated on 30 April since 2018. The first Hungarian motion picture shots were released on 30 April 1901 at the Urania Hungarian Scientific Theatre. Béla Zsitkovszky’s work, A táncz (The Dance) was an illustration for a history of dance presentation. Shots featured the most popular actors of the time. The two-hour long production was a great success, running for more than ten years. Although those recordings have been lost, photos taken during the shooting still exist.30/04/2024
